Arrow The USB cable did not come with any USB install drivers. Where can I download them?

You can download the from the iDEN Support web site. Please DO NOT install the USB cable before first installing the installation application. Failure to do so may cause an incorrect installation and communication errors between the phone and the PC.

Arrow Why do I get communication errors using iDEN Update with the USB cable on Windows XP?

The latest version of the iDEN Update application supports the USB cable connection with the Windows XP platform. If you experience connection issues with iDEN Update using the USB cable, remove the cable from your PC and download/install the . Once installed, plug in your cable/phone and try using iDEN Update again.


Arrow Can I use a USB Hub with the iDEN USB cable and my PC?

If you connect the cable to your computer via a USB hub, you may not be able to read your phone properly. Make sure you connect the cable directly to a USB port on your computer.


Arrow I have upgraded my computer from Windows 95 to a newer platform (98/Me/2000). Can I use the USB cable?

Possibly. If you are using a Windows 95 pre-installed computer or other an older type of computer equipped with a USB port, the USB port may be disabled by default. If you cannot use a different device, such as a USB mouse, check the BIOS setting of your computer.

In addition, check the settings in the "Device Manager" by right-clicking on "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the menu. (Note: If you are using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP, please click the "Hardware" tab). Click the "Device Manager" tab and check that the “USB controller” is displayed in the Device Manager screen. If “USB controller” is not displayed, please refer to the computer's user guide.


Arrow What if I receive the error message: "No USB Drivers Installed" when trying to connect to my phone?

If you receive the error message: "No USB Drivers Installed", please follow these steps:

  1. Unplug the USB cable from the PC.
  2. Go to the Control Panel of your computer by clicking on Start>Settings>Control Panel.
  3. Select the "Phone and Modems Options"
  4. Under Modems, highlight the iDEN USB modem and click "Remove"
  5. Now right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties" from the menu
    Please note: If you are using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP, click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" tab to make sure that there is no unknown USB connections. If there is an unidentified USB connection established in the USB connection field, remove/uninstall it by right-clicking the specific USB icon and selecting uninstall.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Power on your iDEN phone and connect it to the USB cable.
  8. Open the iDEN software application that you intend to use (CompanionPro, iDEN Update, Packet Data Applet, etc).
  9. Connect your USB cable to your PC. The New Hardware wizard should now install the USB modem drivers to enable you to use the USB cable.

Arrow What if I receive the error message: "Cannot communicate with the phone..." or "No USB drivers detected" after installing the USB cable?

If you have properly installed the USB drivers and USB cable and still receive communication errors, check for any unknown device in the device manager on your computer.

To check the device manager:

  1. Using your mouse, right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties" from the menu. The System Properties should now be displayed.
  2. If you are using Windows 2000 Professional or Windows Xp, click the "Hardware" tab.
  3. From the Hardware screen, click the "Device Manager" tab.
  4. Check if there is a device marked with “!” or “X”. (This mark indicates a device is not operating normally. Contact the manufacturer of the device to get information on the latest drivers.)
  5. Right-click on the device marked “!”and select uninstall.
  6. Unplug the USB cable and reboot your computer.
  7. Plug the USB cable back in. You should now be able to use the USB cable.


Arrow Which iDEN phones support USB communications?

The i85s, i50sx, i55sr, i58sr, i88s, i30sx, i35s, i95cl, i90c, i60c and i80s phones support USB communications. There are two USB cables that are available and can be purchased through Motorola Accessories Department by calling 1-800-422-4210.

Arrow What if I am having trouble using the USB cable with Windows 2000?

On Windows 2000 with "Service Pack 1, RC 1.1", USB will not work properly due to an incompatibility. Please update Windows 2000 to "Service Pack 2" for proper operation of USB.
