You can download the from the iDEN Support web site. Please DO NOT install the USB cable before first installing the installation application. Failure to do so may cause an incorrect installation and communication errors between the phone and the PC.

Arrow What if I still receive communication errors on Windows 98 SE when using the USB cable after installing the software?

If you cannot communicate with the phone after installing the software, one recommendation is to go to your computer's Device Manager and remove the USB hub. Once it is removed restart your computer with the USB cable and phone still connected. Windows 98 will then reinstall the USB drivers upon startup.

Arrow Why can't I select the USB option in the iDEN Update User Preferences?

This problem will usually occur when the iDEN USB drivers are not installed or not properly installed. To uninstall and reinstall the iDEN USB driver please follow the instructions listed below.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from your PC.
  2. From Windows, go to the Control Panel.
  3. Make sure that the iDEN USB connection is removed from the Modem section and that any unknown USB device connections are uninstalled from the USB connection location (USB connections are located within the Device Manager). Reboot your computer.
  4. Once completed, power on your phone and connect it to the USB cable. Open the iDEN Update Software application. Now connect the USB cable to your PC.
  5. Windows should indicate that it has located new hardware and it will then install the USB iDEN drivers associated with the software application that is using the USB connection (i.e. iDEN Update).
  6. You can now use the USB cable connection with the application

This problem will usually occur when the iDEN USB drivers are not installed or not properly installed. To install the iDEN USB driver, please follow the instructions listed below.

  1. Disconnect the USB cable from your PC.
  2. From your PC, go to the Control Panel.
  3. From the Control panel, select Modems make sure that the iDEN USB Modem is removed from the Modem section. Also make sure that any unknown USB device connections are uninstalled from the USB connection location within the System/Device Manager.
  4. Restart your PC.
  5. Once completed, power on your phone and connect it to the USB cable.
  6. Open the CompanionPro software application.
  7. Connect the USB cable to your PC. Windows should indicate that it has located new hardware and will then install the USB iDEN drivers associated with the software application that is using the USB connection (i.e. CompanionPro).

Arrow Can I use the iDEN USB cable with my laptop to run GPS applications to a GPS enabled phone?

Currently, iDEN GPS enabled phones do not support a USB connection for running GPS applications to a laptop or other device. iDEN GPS enabled phones currently support NMEA-0183 format which does not support USB connections. In order to correctly run GPS applications, please use the iDEN Serial cable, part number NKN6544. This cable is available to order online at the iDEN Store or from the Motorola parts department at 1-800-422-4210.
