Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF)
Important 9-1-1 Information
While dialing 911 in case of an emergency, you may encounter a prerecorded message instead of a live operator. If
this is the case, please wait for the appropriate prompt and say "Emergency" rather than pressing 1 (one). When the
"1" is pressed, a special tone referred to as Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) typically transmits information over
the voice circuit. Certain Motorola iDEN handsets have had DTMF tones blocked to avoid over-dialing when placing a 911
call. This safety feature was incorporated by Motorola prior to learning that automated response systems were being
sed to respond to 911 calls. Motorola has modified the DTMF 911 override setting in all future iDEN handsets and have
created upgrade utilities to upgrade existing handsets.
Please note after upgrading the handsets with the DTMF utilities with the exception of the i325/i325 IS handset,
customers also need to upgrade the handset with the Download
Apps utility. Please note running the handsets through the Download Apps utility
will restore the Download Apps Java application and customers will be able to re-download java apps that are
Re-downloadable, Factory Defaults, Free/Demo, Subscriptions and or Newly Purchase java applications.
